How to Use

After cleansing, swipe a Toning Pad across face. Follow with serums for optimal absorption. Start by using every other day for two weeks. Gradually increase frequency to daily, then up to twice daily (in AM and PM) as tolerated.  We recommend doing a patch test before first use.

What’s the difference between Toning Pads and Toning Pads II?

Both our Toning Pads and Toning Pads II are designed to exfoliate, smooth, and brighten the skin. The key difference comes down to strength and skin tolerance.

Toning Pads:

  • Up to 2% glycolic acid
  • Best for sensitive skin or those new to exfoliating acids
  • Provides gentle exfoliation to clear pores and improve skin texture

Toning Pads II:

  • Up to 5% glycolic acid
  • Better suited for experienced users or those with oily, resilient skin
  • Helps improve stubborn congestion and more noticeable texture concerns

*Both pads contain up to 2% Salicylic Acid

If you’re new to Barefaced pads, start with Toning Pads to let your skin adjust before moving up to Toning Pads II. Always use sunscreen daily when incorporating exfoliating acids into your routine.
Should I start with Toning Pads or Toning Pads II?

We recommend starting with regular Toning Pads and then increasing to Toning Pads II as tolerated.
Can I use Toning Pads with retinoids?

Yes, Toning Pads are totally fine to use together with retinoids (like RetinAL Skin Therapy) but they can be irritating at first. If you’re new to the combo, or struggle with sensitivity, we recommend using the Toning Pads in the AM only and your retinoid at night. You can start using Toning Pads in the PM once you know your skin is tolerating them without dryness or sensitivity in the morning.
How long will Toning Pads last?

Our Toning Pads (II) jars include 60 pads per jar, which typically lasts 1–2 months depending on frequency of use.
How do I incorporate multiple Barefaced skincare pads?

Polishing Pads can be used 1-2 nights a week on the face and they can be used daily on the body. The Polishing Pads do not replace the daily use of Toning Pads/II, but on the day you use a Polishing Pad you will skip the use of Toning Pads/II.
Is this product considered pregnancy or nursing-friendly?

Hello, how soon should I apply my other products after using the toning pad? For example, does my face need to dry in between each layer of product? Thank you!
Hi Jennifer! Great question! 💛 In most cases no, you don't need to wait between applying your skincare products. We recommend applying them from thinnest to thickest, and once you've spread one product over your skin, you can go right in with the next. If you have very sensitive skin, waiting a minute or two between layers can sometimes make your routine feel more comfortable, but it's not necessary. I thought these were pregnancy safe, but they have salicylic acid which I thought isn’t safe for pregnancy? Can you help me understand why they are (or aren’t) ok to use?
Hi Shannon! All of our products are considered pregnancy friendly except for RetinAL Skin Therapy and Polishing Pads. We use less than 2% of salicylic acid in Toning Pads, which is considered pregnancy friendly.
