But basic dermaplaning just wasn’t good enough for us. The idea for oilplaning was born from Jordan Harper’s experience seeing how traditional dry dermaplaning could leave skin feeling tight or irritated. She set out to create a method that paired a gentle, hydrating oil with a precision razor, giving skin essential protection and a post-shave glow. The result is a smoother, safer take on face shaving that fits perfectly into an at-home routine.
What makes oilplaning superior to basic dermaplaning or dry face shaving?
- Traditional dermaplaning or at-home face shaving is often done on dry skin, which can lead to irritation, dryness, razor bumps, inflammation, or cuts. That’s why we created a first-in-class shave oil designed specifically for women called Perfectionist.

What’s the ideal way to oilplane at home (frequency, technique, safety)?
Your technique, prep and post-shave routine all affect your shaving experience.
Time of day: Always shave at night. You don’t need sun exposure of freshly shaven skin.
How often: We recommend oilplaning weekly, though others may do it less often depending on sensitivity to shaving or how fast your peach fuzz grows back (might be every other week, monthly, or simply when it feels like it’s time). Each razor blade is designed to last ~4 uses before needed to be replaced with a refill.
PRE-SHAVE

- Double cleanse.
- Prep skin with skincare pads (Toning Pads, TPII, or Polishing Pads) to help prevent breakouts.
- Apply one dropper full of Perfectionist to your face and jawline.
DURING

- Pull skin taut, shave at a 45-degree angle, using short gentle strokes.
- If you have sensitive skin or are new, start with downward passes.
- Just like shaving your legs, there’s a learning curve! You are likely to nick yourself the first few times.
POST SHAVE

- Rinse with cool water to remove excess oil and hair and pat dry with a clean towel.
- There should be a little oil left over to serve as a semi- occlusive barrier.
- Follow with soothing products (Overachiever and Hydrating Lotion).
- Sleep with hair pulled back and on a clean pillow case to minimize breakouts.
